Dr. Gonzalez Chamorro works with robotic surgery at the San Rafael Hospital in Madrid.
ROBOTIC SURGERY
Integrated unit in the San Rafael Hospital of Madrid, dedicated to the realization of advanced minimally invasive surgery assisted by the Da Vinci robot.
What is the da Vinci Robot?
The da Vinci robotic surgery system is a technology that offers the surgeon greater precision, and the patient better results and greater safety than other surgical techniques.
Since 2001, robotic surgery has spread throughout the world and has been used in thousands of interventions thanks to its important advantages, backed by multiple clinical publications.
The da Vinci surgical system is composed of an ergonomically designed console for the surgeon with a high-performance 3D visualization system, a stretcher with four robotic arms that reproduce exactly and even improve the movements of the surgeon's hand and are equipped with an extremely precise miniaturized instrument.

How does it work?
The Da Vinci robot is a high-tech tool but can not operate autonomously or make decisions, this responsibility always belongs to the surgeon, who controls the arms of the da Vinci robot from the console, located in the operating room itself.
The console allows the surgeon a perfect enlarged vision, in 3 dimensions of the area that is intervening. Also, from the console, manipulates the arms of the Robot with absolute precision because they reproduce exactly the movement of their hands but with greater angle of movement, the elimination of tremor and the small size of the instruments.
Therefore, complex interventions can be approached with greater guarantees, eliminating the side effects of traditional open surgery and substantially improving laparoscopic surgery.

What are its main advantages?
This system presents multiple advantages over open or laparoscopic surgeries, specifically robotic surgery: Ibis-Robot-1
It reduces bleeding during the intervention and therefore the transfusion needs.
It facilitates the intervention in areas of complicated access for the surgeon, reducing the side effects of traditional interventions.
Thanks to the 3-dimensional visualization and the miniature size of the instruments, the precision in the section and the conservation of the structures are increased.
It causes less pain in the postoperative period and smaller scars.
It allows recovery and incorporation into normal activities faster, thus shortening hospital stay times
